Invisible memories pass as mind loses focus on what’s right there
Yet eyes continue to stare Continue to see Continue to reflect Recollect on the time when I was a boy and knew The monkey I carried kept me company but it’s weight was difficult to dance with I didn’t dance much as a child I’m learning now The monkey protested so I let him off He can find someones else to keep company Memories of a time when I never felt innocent Despite all the lies to keep me that way The invisible strands that hold together so many’s sanity Cursed to be un-gullible, un-bending only truth would do Eyes cast down Told time and again this pursuit, this dream, is too great a feat “I lied for your own good!” Lied to yourself I never believed Was never received Didn’t drink the cool-aid Instead, drowned sorrows in invisible memories of a time when things were different When men were men and women were Other When you worked for a living and nobody cried When everyone knew that white was pure and who gives a fuck about what you want to be called You know The good old days When killing was ok as long as they didn’t look like you How dare you tell me I should self reflect instead of finding someone else to blame Are you saying this is my fault!? Visible anger bubbles and boils Easier than dealing with guilt Frightened children who never learned the hard lessons of compassion Get real Your head is in the clouds and there’s no time to daydream when there’s work to be done No time to play No time for fun Math’s what you need Along with a head full of unpleasant memories It’s the natural order That we built It’s us and them We must defend! From whom? Naught but us and us Invisible lines The greatest lie of all Zero sum as they laugh all the way to the bank with more zeros than they need The invisible sickness of greed It’s a double patty with a side of never-ending need and it's delicious Is this what it means to succeed?! Nay My mind is mine own Invisible boyhood dreams and memories I allow myself to be A visible man
