Tis Love

20/1/2013

Listen well and gather round
For a tale of love both lost and found
Its start comes at the age of ten
In a land hurt by wars of men
Both lad and lass has lost their parents
Their homes and lives charred ashes in cement
In this bleak and painful time
Each other's help they did find

Charlie had a small guitar
   To play with lady Erica
Together they did form an act
   To entertain as soldiers pas
The passing men did tip them well
Both their purse and bellies swelled
This went on for 6 odd years
The war did pass as did their fears
Then a man did come along
Who offered her a showbiz song

Erica and Charlie said goodbye
Upon their parting both did cry
Upon the stage she found success
   Charlie embraced the wilderness
He knew as soon as she had gone
How strong it was their shared bond
He began to write songs of love
There count not be any oth'
These songs did travel far and wide
   Until they reached Erica's bedside

There after 10 long years
She remembered Charlie and burst in tears
Then one evening at a party
   Only creatives were invited
She saw Charlie through a crowd
His eyes looked up and cleared a cloud
There did stand his one true love
For so long he had been dreaming of
They drifted together in a trance
And shared a first and sublime dance
From that time on they were together
Tis love that's all that lasts forever

Drop-In Danger

10/1/2013

Danger dropped in for a cup of tea.
Just looking for some company

"Hello" it called and lit my adrenaline
I wondered about risk and sin

But danger just said "move right along
"Your fear will not serve to make me less strong"

I said hello back and ate biscuits of fear
Just like that did it disappear.

The danger remained, sipping the brew
But I could face it I knew

We cannot control when danger comes to tea
But we can control what our reactions will be

Will we let the fear consume
So we can't face the danger in the room

Or will we let the fear be a bit sweet
And have the adrenaline as our treat

Danger dropping in for tea can be unexpected company
This is no reason to treat impolitely.  This guest can't be put off indefinitely.
We will all have a story
About when danger came in for tea.

Twenty One Three

Twenty one three
Who would have thought that we would be
Well on our way
To a new era and day

Where our race has plenty for all
Not through big plans but through many and small

Small changes to how we live
How we think
How we talk
How we give

Twenty one three
Looking to be a very good year for this humanity

A time to settle
A time to grow
A year when our best does show

Ready or not
The future has come
We know shines on us all the same sun
Our world is one

We must share and spread
With every nation must we break bread

We must vanquish these thoughts of fitting in
Vanquish the fear of original sin

Twenty one three
Mean a year of potential
Boundless and huge
A year when we turn away
From the coming deluge

It seemed to loom dark in 2012
A year when we could have turned this world into hell

When hope could have been lost
But twenty one three is here
and HOPE IS THE BOSS

Reach Farther
Dig Deeper
Are you ready?
Here comes the Future.

    Douglas Karson

    I love poetry.

It can be whimsical or epic, unbearably long or just two memorable lines, mature and dark or light and childish.
