Had a lovely family party to celebrate what would have been my wife's grandmother's 100 year birthday. My wife has over 60 extended family and after over 10 years together I am finally starting to get to know her extended family a bit better. A gathering of family
Nay Friends Blurring lines with In-Laws How long shall we hug? Do we kiss both cheeks? How many goodbyes is too many? It hasn’t happened yet that I’ve wanted to cry Nor belly laugh But consistent affection Turns to joy on reflection With amazement that we all get along No black sheep who can’t carry on All good, Civilized folk Who love music Poetry And fine wine I am blessed by extension We don’t choose who we fall in love with And we less get to choose their family! A family party Feasting and reminiscing With the laughter little un’s who roll in the garden While parents chase and trip over toys Keeping a side eye for danger While elders lend their hands and calm Memories and news exchange The air becomes rich with nostalgia Celebrating the matriarch A Gamma who shaped us all Thanks Rosemary I hope you felt this day somehow
