A Death in the Family

26/10/2010

Somewhere out there a grandmother passes
Earth to earth and ashes to ashes
Their passing is life but also a sadness
Long life lost, loved ones surround
Softly falling tears the only audible sound
Heads bowed as the salt hits the ground
Silver hair, wrinkled skin, age percieved
So much love given and thusly recieved
But now, she is just waiting to be relieved

At this moment a grandfather falls
"My heart, it is stopping" is what he calls
Born things must die, thus are the laws
Survived by children, grandchildren, wife
The family he worked to build his whole life
Now that hard work has claimed its price
Peacefully past, small gathering of friends
Come to see his body off to the end
The rest of the family will surely fend

Right now a mother does die
Her family upset, it helps to cry
There is a reason if wondering why
Cancer her bane, it ate her away
Her own cells her life did betray
On this earth, she could no longer stay
Mourning family support one another
The children so sad at the loss of their mother
Their lives go on and hopefully recover

A father gives in, he could not hand on
His body begins to play a new song
Moving on out unto heaven's lawn
Stroke caught him on a bright Sunday morn
With his whole family around safe and warm
This situation for them was the norm
His work respected, a legacy left
From his future, this feels like a theft
Leaving a family at home and bereft

A song is destroyed through reckless pursuit
Lost in testosterone in the height of his youth
No chance of reaching an age to seek truth
Accident stole his young life away
At such a fast speed that boy did play
Now without moving his body doth lay
Great pain and tears his parents express
He was their only, the part that was best
They must now accept he is laid down to rest

A young girl tragically lost is the worst
She was like pure sunshine, now in a hearse
The youngest should not the die in the first
Like a summer flower, soft, bright, and sweet
Her life only innocence, no chance for deciept
The loss of such purity feels like defeat
The animals wail with the birds in the sky
The whole planet mourns and wonders why
This sweet little girl was chosen to die

No reason or rhyme can help ease the pain
Of a loss in the family, naught else is the same
Either young or old, death doth lay a claim
The closer the loss the greater the pain

Death is inseperable from living
As long as there's breathe, we keep on giving
We must carry on, we are strong beings
Letting go is so hard, none want bereaving

So sad
   Not bad
Death for all must be had

    I love poetry.

It can be whimsical or epic, unbearably long or just two memorable lines, mature and dark or light and childish.
