This is Fine

Crystal clear water flows down the Avon
Sentiment unstirred as boats are all moored
Has it ever been this clear?
Has it ever been this quiet?

The air is fresh and smells of spring blossom
And still is the hum of traffic
No cars today on the once busy roads
Only the sounds of the wind in the leaves

The birds in the trees
The gentle flow of moving water
In secluded spaces
And forests of old trees remaining beautifully unperturbed

Corridors of white blossom line sunshine kissed trails
Dry dirt in warmth of spring sunshine
These are the moments I forget
Moments of escape

Moments of appreciation
With the clean water
The fresh air
And the radiant blossom

This is fine

The Storm and the Sunshine

Sometimes when I sit in the sunshine I forget theres a wild storm raging
Where people are fighting
And loosing
And grieving
But then the spring hits
And can't help but smile
And listen to the birds
And the laughter of children
And the turning of the world
But the storm keeps raging
In brightly lit florescent rooms
Where brave people
In insufficient gear
Battle an enemy who is cryptic
And unseen
They brave the storm in their paddle boats
And fishing boats
To save those stranded in need

Sitting in the sunshine
I sometimes forget the storm
But I always remember those brave people
Who haven't seen their families in weeks
Who haven't had a hug
Who face grisly death everyday
And keep fighting
And keep healthy
And we support them
In the sunshine
In our homes
Until this storm doth pass

If These Walls Could Talk

The fly on the wall lamented the loss of it's untold stories
They deserve to be heard
But deserve is not the word of its time
Fear
Worry
And eventually
Grief
The fly stretched his wings
He knew it wouldn't be long
As he lifted off
His friend the wall just watched
Taciturn
He was never much for talking
So many stories lost
By that fly on the wall

January 01st, 2020

Another year past in the blink of an eye
Where did that time go?

Toasts made to new family and old friends
Various beverages and feasts consumed

Bubbles, bourbon and beer sipped in joy under the twinkling lights of a fading christmas tree
Memories of a year come to pass
Feelings and predictions about the future

Mingle into an air of emotions that don't translate well into words
Yet here we are
Still trying

Reflecting another year gone
The end of a decade
Somehow feels like the end of an era

Maybe this year, good decisions won't need to wait for hindsight
It is 20-20 after all
And the future calls
Still full of hope
We listen to it's promise

This year will be better than the last
Humans are an optomistic species

Children growing up so quickly
It won't be long before they join us on the bubbly
Where did the time go?
Another year is come
Another chance to get it right.

Ornaments

100 shiny ornaments hanging from the tree
A collection of memories and love
Precious patchwork pieces of home, stitched together by time and family.
Shiney green and red reflections of smiling faces on happy children who don’t need to pretend to be patient
Relaxed relatives sip contentedness
Resting in the warmth of family

100 sweet ornaments bounce firelight into far corners of forgotten innocence
Nostalgic memories of simpler times
Look around
They are simple now
Hollow bobbles hold the essence of laughter
Its amazing they don’t burst!
Crackers revealing crowns of colour
We wear them together
Love is the clue
Binding us and reminding us of cycles of joy

100 unique ornaments each telling a story
Snow day escapades and stuffed turkey feasts
Satsuma champagne mornings with the fragrance of mince
This is a celebration of bounty
Please
Invite those in need to share
Spreading joy is in the air
Along with the sizzling smell of legendary leftovers
Cranberry turkey combinations with stuffing to make a sandwich of champions
A special Christmas treat

100 hanging ornaments dangle under the tree
Overflowing with gifts from close friends and distant family
Knick knacks paddiwacks and little toys that go click clack
They are passed around with smiles and excitement
In the sparkling lights, we think of our friends
Keep lists of who sent them
Must remember to send them a thank you
I miss you
Hope to catch up soon
We think of those who are not present and salute them with a toast
We will always miss you

Long Boxing Day walks with meaningful talks
We find comfort with friends
Warmth with family

100 small ornaments ready to hang
The tree is up
The fire is lit
Christmas is here

    I love poetry.

It can be whimsical or epic, unbearably long or just two memorable lines, mature and dark or light and childish.
